It was only a few weeks ago that the largest precast concrete plant to date in the country was opened in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Weckenmann had built this production facility on behalf of the concrete specialists GLB. In the last few days another plant designed and installed by Weckenmann went into operation in the city of Aktobe. This time the client was the company Uy Kurylys. The governor of the region, Berdylbek Saparbaev, also took part in the opening ceremony on 30 August.

The supply contract for this “green field” project was signed by both parties in December 2014. Parallel to the construction of the new plant, an investment was made in the development of new infrastructure with supply and disposal lines and roads as part of the “Business Road Map 2020” state programme.

The client expects the new production facility to provide a comprehensive solution to the housing problem in the country by offering significantly more affordable housing faster through more efficient production of precast concrete. The core of the new plant is the Weckenmann circulation system. This system optimises production processes to such an extent that the previous assembly time of a housing project of one year is reduced to six months – while at the same maintaining the consistent quality of the precast concrete parts. The circulation system with its 44 pallets is designed for each building system. It can be used to produces floor slabs, sandwich panels, interior walls, elevator shaft elements and stairs. The thicknesses of these concrete elements can vary between 80 and 400 mm.

The new plant is very important to the city of Aktobe and the region, Governor Berdylbek Saparbaev said in his speech at the opening. Uy Kurylys will use it not only to build apartments but also kindergartens, schools, hospitals and other buildings for community use. Adding to the significance of this new production facility is also the date of its opening – as “Constitution Day” 30 August is an official holiday. This day is reserved for the ceremonial handover of buildings that are of great importance for the entire country.
